Camp Smile

This past week Ellie spent 4 nights and 4 1/2 days at Camp Smile (http://www.campsmilemobile.org) in Mobile, AL.  She seems to have really loved it, and cried when we put her in the car to take her away from constant loving attention from the WONDERFUL and AMAZING staff there (especially her beautiful and loving counselor Pranaya--pictured immediately below with Ellie on the first day).

On the last day there was a Talent Show.  One of the young men name Michael Rachad (a college graduate) with what appeared to be severe CP, confined to a wheelchair, hardly able to speak, wrote a song which was played on a CD (sung by someone else) while he sat on stage.  WOW!  Powerful!  It was called "I Asked God".  I am not sure if there was a dry eye in the place.

New Equipment!!

We thank God for being our Provider and we thank our friends and family for being vehicles of His provision.  Last month we were able to purchase a badly needed stander and a badly needed wheelchair, both of which Ellie had seriously outgrown.

Ellie turned 6!!

April 10th was Ellie's 6th birthday!  The day before our whole family (including Kendra and Steve) went to the amusement park.  Ellie was able to go on a few of the rides and LOVED them!  The day after Ellie's birthday we all took a day trip to Nafplion where we had a nice walk around the town, ate at a good Greek restaurant, played a photo scavenger hunt (put together by Steve), and had ice cream.

Merry Christmas, 2011!

Christmas Eve we had 8 refugee friends over for a Mexican dinner, fellowship, prayer, carol singing,  Christmas games, and other family traditions.  There were two Iranians, two Afghans, 3 Pakistanis, and 1 Sudanese.  We had a great time and you'll enjoy hearing that one of our Afghani guests exclaimed with enthusiasm at the dinner table, "This is the first time in my life I have shared a meal in the home of high-class people!"  We told him, "This is the first time in our life we have been called 'high-class' people!"

This morning we opened our family gifts, and tonight the Helping Hands team will be coming over to celebrate together.

Ellie's First School Christmas Program (Kindergarten)

December 21, 2011

Today Ellie had her first character acting role as one of the "two" kings that visited the Christ child.  She didn't care for the crown they placed on her head.  She never cried but neither did she smile or laugh.  She mostly looked "concerned".

The most impressive part to me was when Ellie's teacher opened the program quoting I Corinthians 13:4-7 (and got overcome with emotion while reading it).

The pics did not turn out great but here they are...

Some day I might even post some video clips from the program...maybe over Christmas vacation.
